I am a sucker for a cute pair of knee or thigh-high boots. Being a plus-size gal this has always been a challenge, only a few companies make wide and extra wide calf boots. Every year I buy them only to have to return most. Straight size brands do not even come close to fitting – with most considering ‘wide calf’ to be 16 inches around. After many years of trial and error, I have come up with the definitive list of companies who make the BEST truly wide calf plus size friendly boots!
Torrid
Year after year Torrid always pulls through with wide and extra wide calf boots, plus wide width options. They continuously offer the most choices out of any other retailer, with 50+ options. They create multiple styles to appeal to every person – from classic brown boots to black lace-up boots. I always start with Torrid when looking for the perfect boot.
Lane Bryant
Lane Bryant has been making quality wide calf boots for a while now. They do not offer different widths like Torrid, and often have a smaller selection. It can be hit or miss with the fit, but when they do fit they are amazing. The overall quality is better than Torrid in my opinion, and have more classic and minimalist options. They also have their ‘premium’ boot line – these are REAL leather boots for about $200 USD. My all-time favorite pair of boots is from their premium line and I have owned and worn them for over 6 years!
Woman Within
Woman Within’s selection rivals Torrid’s with 60+ options including all different styles. That being said – beware of the actual calf width circumference. They sell from all different retailers and brands, and each brand has its own measurements. Some of these boots are only barely wide calf, with a 16-17 inch circumference. Also, be sure to price search – oftentimes I can find the same boot cheaper elsewhere. For example, a pair of Franco Sarto boots are $225 on Woman Within but I easily found them for $160 at DSW (these ‘wide calf’ boots only have a 16.5-inch circumference… huge bummer!).
Wide Widths
Wide Widths specializes in its name – shoes to fit wide feet and wide calves. These boots are definitely on the higher end, most ranging from $150 – $250 USD. These boots are high quality, made with real leather. This website is similar to Woman Within in that they sell boots from different brands. This means you need to be extra careful looking at the size charts and measurements. Luckily they make this super easy, when you choose your shoe size they also list the circumference! Their extra-wide calf is not extra wide in my opinion, but their super wide and super plus wide boots are!
